Let's Get Started

We Care About You

Prism Therapy Group is a small private practice group. We have several providers that work various schedules and days so that we can best meet your needs and be flexible with your busy schedule. We have found this gives you the best of both worlds. High-end services with a sense of collaboration and diverse clinical experience.

What To Expect At Your Visit

We are conveniently located just off of the 380 (Boyson Road exit) and Center Point Road. There is convenient free parking right outside of our building. Once you arrive you enter our practice through a private entrance.

We do not have a reception at this time, so when you enter you can have a seat in our comfortable and cozy waiting area. The feedback we have gotten of our space is that it is relaxing, beautiful, and warm. Generally, we have music and sound machines on and you are welcome to help yourself to coffee or tea located in our open kitchenette area.

We’ve been asked by clients if they can just come in to sit in our space even when they don’t have an appointment because that’s how inviting they find it. We joke that we may have found another revenue stream to explore with that.

Enjoy Our Wisdom and Isms

Your therapist will be the one to greet you at the time of your session. We have all taken great care in creating our office spaces. All offices have large windows, comfy furniture, fidgets, and of course several positive affirming inspirational quotes throughout our office space.

While this is somewhat a requirement of a therapy office, we truly believe at Prism Therapy Group that our narratives and stories are important. In our waiting area, we have a wall filled with these, labeled our “Wisdom’s and Ism’s” for you to enjoy. The photography pictures that hang on our walls were taken by a very talented significant other, and the framed dried flowers were made from our good-bye and congratulatory bouquets when we stepped into this new private practice adventure.

We want to thank you in your interest in getting to know us and hope to see you soon.

Things To Know

As licensed professionals, we are able to bill most medical services to insurance. While each of us is credentialed with different insurance panels, we accept most major commercial insurance plans. If you do not have insurance or would prefer not to submit to insurance we also accept private pay or out-of-pocket pay for the services we provide.

  • Our session rates are:
    • $200 for an initial assessment
    • $155 for a 55-60 minute individual, and for family & couples sessions
    • $105 for a 45-minute session

  • It is your responsibility to make sure your insurance plan covers mental health sessions and you are responsible for payment of deductibles, co-pay, co-percentage or our standard session rate if insurance will not cover the session at the time services are rendered.

Forms are typically emailed out after setting up an appointment. To set up an appointment please inquire on this website or call 319-208-2150. We do our best to contact you within 24-48 hrs on business days. Once your information is entered into our system forms will be emailed from our electronic health records system, Simple Practice.

This system is HIPAA compliant and if you are a designated party you will receive access to our secure client portal, which also allows for secure direct messaging with your provider. We ask that all forms be completed at the time of the first session.

If you do not have an email, a client can complete paper forms in the office. If you are unsure of anything on our forms, please do not hesitate to ask. It is your right to make informed decisions and understanding this information is very important. We are happy to assist in any questions or concerns you may have.

  • Insurances we accept are:
    • Wellmark: Blue Cross Blue Shield
    • United Health Care
    • Aetna
    • Health Partners
    • Tricare
    • Optum
    • Midland’s Choice
    • UMR
    • Medicaid
    • Iowa Total Care
    • Amerigroup

Some providers are only credentialed with specific insurances. Whether insurance covers sessions depends on your insurance policy or plan as well as whether your therapist is in-network. We have worked hard to become credentialed with most major commercial insurance carriers.

It is your responsibility to call your insurance carrier and make sure you have a good understanding of what your policy and plan covers.  It is also your responsibility to update your provider if you have a change in your insurance carrier to minimize any impact in receiving services or financial hardship. All providers can accept private pay for services at our standard rates or another agreed-upon session rate determined by you and your provider. Please talk with your provider if you have any concerns or changes. We can typically work with you to find a solution and reduce barriers to accessing mental health services.

  • We require active clients to contact the office or their specific provider at least 24 hours in advance if you are needing to cancel an appointment. This can be done via email, phone, text, or through our secure client portal. If an appointment is canceled in less than 24 hours, we have the right to charge a late cancellation fee of $25. If a provider is not contacted at all for a scheduled appointment and a client does not show for the appointment a fee of $75 will be charged. If there are ongoing issues with attending appointments you may be referred to another provider or office. We understand there are sometimes a number of reasons in which cancellations may occur, however, it is important to keep appointments whenever possible. If this is an issue a provider will talk with you about options and provide support.

  • All of that being said, we do not want anyone putting themselves in danger trying to attend a scheduled appointment. We live in Iowa, land of so many seasons, which can create hazardous driving conditions. If there is inclement weather we often times have the option of meeting over telehealth and you can attend therapy from the comfort and safety of your home or office as long as you can create a confidential space.

  • Additionally, we understand that sometimes you don’t know 24 hrs in advance of the need to cancel. Such is often the case with illness. As long as cancellation and attendance issues aren’t ongoing issues your provider will work with you. We also ask for this kindness and understanding in return. There are times in which your provider, as magical as they may seem, are still human. Meaning we may need to cancel appointments from time to time as well. We will do our best to provide you with as much notice and options for rescheduling when this occurs.
  • Telehealth is a way to receive therapy services without having to come to the office. It is very convenient as it often cuts down the amount of time typically required to attend in-person appointments. Our providers utilize HIPAA compliant synchronous video chat, called doxy.me, allowing you to meet in real-time with your provider.

  • All of our providers offer telehealth services. For the first session, we require meeting in person to ensure that telehealth is an appropriate fit to receive services. Due to not being in the same physical location, it is important to make sure that level of care is meeting the appropriate level of support you may need. Prism Therapy Group must also have emergency or safety contacts identified before these services would be provided. This will be discussed at the initial appointment and re-evaluated as needed.

  • There are a few things you need to know about telehealth. It is generally best if you have a strong and steady internet signal. While you can do this over any device that has internet and video capabilities it is generally advised to meet on a device like a computer to minimize any disruption due to poor internet connection strength.

  • Additionally, it is important as a client that you can meet in a space that ensures confidentiality. Use of headphones or earbuds is recommended as well as meeting in a private-secure location in which others will not be able to walk in or interrupt your session is advised. So while it may be really convenient to meet over your lunch break, your provider would be unable to conduct a session while you are at a restaurant or driving. Safety and confidentiality are of utmost importance and we must legally and ethically abide by these rules.

  • While you may prefer to meet in person at the office, we understand that sometimes life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges. Sometimes, rather than canceling or rescheduling a session when this occurs, a provider might suggest meeting over telehealth. Consent for these services is in our standard consent agreement and therefore can be conducted from time to time as needed. Typical reasons for moving to telehealth may be due to exposure or illness in which it could create a risk to meet in person, or in the case of inclement weather in which it wouldn’t be advised to travel.

  • We do NOT provide crisis and emergent services. Our therapists are only available during regular business hours.
  • Business Hours:
    • Monday-Thursday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    • Friday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Providers are not available on-call. If a crisis or emergency occurs you should go to the nearest emergency room, call 911, or call the Foundation 2 Mobile Crisis Unit at 319-247-0030.

Prism Therapy Group is known as a covered entity under HIPAA, which means we are subject to all HIPAA rules and guidelines. We utilize a HIPAA compliant electronic health records system. This system has a client portal in which secure messages can be exchanged. We also send our documents and paperwork through this system. Telehealth is done through a video platform called Doxy.me which is also HIPAA compliant. Our phone lines are through Iplum which also has HIPAA compliant capabilities if needed. Our work email addresses are NOT HIPAA compliant, and it is not recommended for use in exchange for any information that could contain patient health information or that is sensitive in nature. Please feel free to discuss these areas with your therapist in person if you have any questions or concerns.

Our code of ethics and HIPAA regulate access to your personal health information. This means we may not reveal any personal information to anyone without your permission. If revealing information such as being a client is considered confidential. As a therapist, we may neither “confirm nor deny” in these situations. There are certain associated parties that sometimes have limited access to patient information. This is generally the case in working with minors. An example of an associated party might be a grandparent that provides transportation and scheduling support for a patient to attend therapy. Associated parties are only added when permission is granted.

There are times in which confidentiality can be disregarded, but only in the following cases: if you are in an emergency situation in which harm or clear danger is believed to occur toward yourself or others, in cases of which abuse or neglect is shared for a minor or dependent adult, and for supervision purposes, in which only required information may be shared.

There are also times a clinician may ask to videotape sessions only for supervision, these will not be shared outside of supervision. You may decline to videotape for supervision at any time. That being said, we are happy to engage in care coordination with other health care professionals as you deem fit as long as we have the appropriate releases. Oftentimes patients would like us to work with a doctor or psychiatrist, having a team of professionals collaborating can make a world of difference.

We ask that you make informed decisions in this area. You are welcome to wear a mask, and these are recommended in our common spaces. If you would prefer that masks be worn throughout sessions our therapists will accommodate this to ensure you feel comfortable and safe.

We ask that if you have any active symptoms of illness, whether this be Covid-19 or general illnesses that you notify your therapist. Decisions pertaining to whether to cancel or reschedule as a telehealth appointment will be discussed. We sanitize our common and offices spaces regularly. However, we can make no guarantees, despite our best efforts to minimize the impact of Covid-19. The risk of attending in-office appointments is yours to assume. We ask that you make the best decisions you can in this area, we ask that you are conscientious for yourself, therapists, and others.
